Why Can a Cleaning Not Be Replaced by Brushing at Home?

Brushing and flossing remove soft plaque. Once plaque mineralizes into tartar, usually within a couple of days on the surfaces people miss, it bonds to the tooth and no toothbrush will shift it. Removing it requires hand instruments and an ultrasonic scaler.
