What Are Porcelain Veneers?

They are used on single teeth to fix one visible problem, or across the front teeth to change a whole smile.

Porcelain is the material of choice because of how it handles light. It has depth and translucency that closely mimics natural enamel, and it resists staining far better than composite. It is also the reason a well-made veneer case is difficult to identify as dental work, which is what most patients actually want.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Veneers at Brampton Smiles?

Veneers work well for:

What Does the Veneer Process Involve at Brampton Smiles?

Two to three visits across 3 to 4 weeks. The plan is reviewed in 3D before any tooth is touched, which is the part patients tell us made the decision feel safe.

1. Smile design consultation (45 to 60 minutes). Photos, an intraoral scan, and a digital mock-up of the proposed result. You see the new smile on a screen and approve it before anything is prepared.
2. Tooth preparation (about 90 minutes). A thin layer of enamel is removed, typically 0.3 to 0.7 mm, digital impressions are taken, and temporary veneers are placed. The temporaries let you live with the new shape for a few weeks and request changes.
3. Final placement (60 to 90 minutes). The custom porcelain veneers are bonded one at a time, the bite is fine-tuned, and everything is polished. A nightguard is fitted at this appointment.

The temporaries are not a formality. That is the stage where a patient discovers the length is a millimetre too long for their lip line, or that they want the corners softer. Changing it there costs nothing. Changing it after the porcelain is made means starting the lab work over, so I ask people to actually live with the temporaries and come back with notes.

Are Porcelain Veneers Reversible?

Traditional porcelain veneers are not fully reversible, because a thin layer of enamel is removed to make room for the ceramic and enamel does not regrow. This is the single most important thing to understand before starting, and Dr. Abbas raises it at every veneer consultation without being asked.

There are more conservative options. Minimal-prep and no-prep veneers preserve more enamel and suit some cases, though not all. Composite bonding is fully reversible and is often recommended first for younger patients, or for anyone who wants to see a change before committing to something permanent. Whitening alone changes more than most people expect and removes nothing at all.

How Long Do Veneers Last at Brampton Smiles?

Modern porcelain veneers last 12 to 20 years on average based on published dental literature, and many go longer. The two factors that decide where in that range you land are the bite, meaning whether you grind at night, and the home care routine.

How Do I Care for Porcelain Veneers?

Much like natural teeth, with a few specifics. Brush twice daily with a non-abrasive toothpaste, clean between the teeth daily, and keep to 6-month hygiene visits. Whitening toothpastes with heavy abrasives can dull the glaze over time, and there is no benefit since porcelain does not stain the way enamel does.

Avoid using front teeth as tools, which means no opening packaging, no biting nails, and no chewing ice or pen lids. Wear the nightguard. If you play contact sport, wear a custom sportguard. Veneers are strong but they are still ceramic, and a single impact can chip one.
